Here's my tourney report.

I made it into Antics within about 15 minutes of the event starting and I see the regulars talking about "YUGIOH!!!!!!!!!". I'm guessing that it must have been about the new fire structure deck but I only popped over at the end of the conversation. Anyways before we knew it Lee went over everything that was happening for the event. Overall it was 17 players in attendance which meant 5 rounds of swiss and a top 4 cut. So because 'Player of the Month' was still within my grasp, and Alex Perrett who has the same record for this month, I decided to play Machina Gadgets again which is obvious I know. So on to round 1.

Round 1 vs Tim Cox - Dino Rabbit

I knew that from the word go this was going to be a challenge and it certainly was. Tim took the first game as I drew badly and he played a Dolkka and Laggia. Ironically I drew Maxx C on the turn after Tim first played a Laggia but I managed to play Maxx C whilst he was making his Dolkka play. Either way I couldn't draw what I needed and he took the first game quickly. Games 2 and 3 however were different as I won both. Tim played Macro Cosmos in game 3 which I chained MST to, afterwards he played another which I Solemnd. I then managed to attack with Fortress galore and take the match. Overall the match was a really good warm up for both of us.

1-0

Round 2 vs Kim Everatt - Fire Fist

This was the deck I was trying to prepare for after my matches with Alex Perrett from the previous week's event as I actually had side deck material this time round. This however this proved to be a bad choice as I would have lost anyway had I used it. I did however take a fairly quick game 1 from attacking monsters with Fortress and dealing lots of damage. Games 2 and 3 took longer and eventually we went into time and after 3 turns Kim won but I can't remember everything about the match apart from I had to do a lot of reading.

1-1

So afterwards it was lunch and I just had a brewsky and a sugar / caffeine bar (aka chocolate!). Before we knew it round 3 was on!

Round 3 vs Josh Burnett - Cha-Thunder

Especially as of late Josh has pretty much been my rival as he gives me good games every event we face each other, and today was no exception. I can't remember everything about the match apart from it was very back and forth in game 2 which Josh took and I managed to gain massive card advantage in game 3 to help me win.

2-1

Round 4 vs Chris Hemmings - Gladiator Beasts

This was my best match of the day and was really tense to say the least. Chris slaughtered me in game one as I opened up with just a Veiler and a Machina Cannon. I lost quickly. Game 2 was the opposite as I dominated because Chris drew badly and I countered his Dark Hole with Solemn Judgment. Game 3 went down to the wire as near the end of the game Chris had a face down War Chariot which I thought was a Lance, a Dimensional Fissure face up and a Laquari face up. I had a Fortress with no back row and I was lucky. Had I not attacked I would have faced a Gyzarus next turn and lost and not to mention that I was left on 500 life points at the end!

3-1

Round 5 vs Jack Dyson - Lightsworn

This was another excellent match as Jack easily won game one from a swarm of monsters and I lost card advantage. Game 2 was the opposite as I had field control and won fairly quickly. Game 3 took a while and it was thanks to a well timed Light-Imprisoning Mirror very early on that allowed me to win after attacking with Scrap Dragon. Even though Jack had three Necro Gardnas in his graveyard he still didn;t have an answer as he wasn't prepared for Limiter Removal which effectively gave me on free attack because of the situation with our life points.

4-1

After all 5 rounds and the prizes were given out the top 4 was revealed with no one going X-0 / 5-0.

Tim Cox - Dino Rabbit - 4-1
Me - Machina Gadgets - 4-1
Craig Penwarden - Geargia Machina - 4-1
Alex Perrett - Fire Fist - 4-1

So with both main contenders (at this current moment) going for 'Player of the Month' it was going to be tight as Alex was playing Tim which left me to play against...

Top 4 vs Craig Penwarden - Geargia Machina

Once again I had a tough match with Craig as we play similiar decklists but with different cards and playstyles. Game 1 I opened up with a 'commit to the field' hand as the only monster I could play was a Fortress by discarding a Cannon and setting some back row. The only damage I took this game was from a Gigant X, however it took a while to win as I don't own a Gagaga Cowboy, which would've helped me win two turns sooner but otherwise no issues. Game 2 Craig won without losing any life points as he managed to do lots of stuff with his Karakuris etc. I had no answer. Game 3 went down to the wire as I got lucky because Craig only played 1 Chimeratech in his extra deck. Because of this I was able to clear his field on the next turn of his Big Eye, Maestroke and Cyber Dragon while discarding the one card in his hand from the previous turn with Fortress. I used his Cyber Dragon to my advantage by summoning Red Gadget to make a Chimeratech for 2000 and summoning Fortress. I attack his Maestroke with Fortress and then use Smashing Ground on his Big Eye. After being left with 1150 life points Craig didn't have an answer and I won.

5-1

Finals vs Tim Cox - Dino Rabbit

To be honest this match gave me two very bad starting hands. Game one I had a Maxx C, Veiler and some trap support. Even after using Maxx C to try and draw something helpful I just didn't have the answer. Game 2 was very much the same apart from that I drew a Yellow Gadget to start with and tried to proceed from there with my spell and trap support, but it wasn't to be and Tim won after a short while. Congrats Tim. Irony strikes again. You win in swiss and then you'll lose in the top 4 / finals.

Pros

Great end to a great format.
Arguably one of my favourite locals events ever.
Okay pull from my prizes.
The most exciting event I've played in for a long time. Tense matches and feeling nervous really put me on edge.
All of my matches were really good in some way.
My deck proved to be really consistent.
Great atmosphere. Like I said already something I really haven't felt or experienced in a long time.

Cons

I had 4 bad starting hands which was more than normal. 1 against Chris and Jack and then 2 against Tim in the finals.

Many thanks to the following...

Antics for the usage of tables.
Lee for running the event.
My opponents for some awesome games.

That is all. Until next time peace out!

And of course...

GIMME A HELL YEAH!!! Smile
